WITH COMPLICITY OF ATELIERS FRAPPAZ
Five characters are brought together on a road. Route 1 is the story of a new beginning about individuals who discover where they have come from and who choose to walk together to an unknown destination. A shout of optimism let out by a young collective that wants to move forward against all odds, this street play presents itself as a stroll attentive to the world and the group. It can also be seen in the form of a connection between intimate stories and history.
Carole Fréchette’s text centers around the famous photo taken by Nick Ut on 8th June 1972 of a young Vietnamese girl, a burn victim running naked along a road after a Napalm attack. It reminds us that our generation was not spared by war and that we are all affected in one way or another by the conflicts that are taking place across the world. War is the main theme running throughout the show. As depicted in that famous photo, it is as though walking meant choosing life over the chaos that surrounds us.
